The Ultra-distance Trail Race of La Cerdanya, the Catalonia-Costa Brava Grand Prix of the World Windsurfing Championship and the Transpyr MTB race prove a great success.

MARCH 2014

In June, a series of first-rate sporting competitions took place on the Costa Brava and in the Pirineu de Girona, offering the destination a great opportunity to raise its profile in Catalonia, the rest of Spain and abroad as it welcomed the world's top sportspeople in each speciality, together with spectators and visitors.

The first Ultra-distance Trail Race of La Cerdanya took place in La Cerdanya on 8th, 9th and 10th June, proving a great success in terms of both participant and spectator numbers. 358 runners competed in this trail running race.

The World Windsurfing Championship (PWA World Tour) - Catalonia-Costa Brava Grand Prix 2012 took place from 12th to 17th June, bringing together 64 of the world's top slalom windsurfers. The competition was held at Cortal de la Devesa beach in Sant Pere Pescador, using the facilities of the Ballena Alegre campsite. The winner of this year's championship was Bjorn Dunkerbeck from the Canary Islands, at present the most in-form windsurfer as current holder of the world sailing speed record and 2011 world champion.

Last of all, on 30th June, the Transpyr Bike 2012 (two seas route) got under way in Roses. The race takes place over 8 days with a route that covers both the Catalan and Aragonese Pyrenees, with the finishing line in San Sebastian, in the Basque Country.

The baton is taken up by sailing in July with the holding of the World Sailing Championship (Europe Class) in L'Escala (12th - 24th July) and that of the 29er class European Championship in Sant Pere Pescador.
