Nine press trips and a luxury familiarisation trip aimed at the Chinese market

 The Patronat de Turisme organised ten visit and activity programmes for journalists and travel agents in September to showcase the destinations of the Girona area and their tourism offer.

One of the highlights was a familiarisation trip to Catalonia aimed at showcasing its luxury and quality tourism offer to the Chinese market, a promotional initiative of the Catalan Tourism Agency that took place from 21st to 23rd September. The Patronat de Turisme participated in the promotional initiative by organising three days of visits, services and activities on the Costa Brava for the group of eight Chinese specialised wholesale agents. This destination discovery and business networking schedule included visits to top-of-the-range tourism accommodation establishments, meals in avant-garde restaurants and a range of activities proposed by Girona-based companies, such as tastings of DO Empordà wines and golf course clinics, etc. Furthermore, a workshop was held with the participation of the Chinese agents and a dozen tourism companies from the Girona area.

Meanwhile, nine press trips also took place in September involving 40 journalists from Germany, Belgium, Holland and Madrid. The journalists from Germany went on a tour from the Pyrenees to the Girona coast on high-capacity motorcycles; a Dutch TV channel, VRT, made a programme on the greenways of the counties of Girona; a group of Belgian journalists visited the Jewish heritage of Besalú, Castelló d’Empúries and Girona; journalists from the magazine Sobremesa visited DO Empordà wine cellars; and 15 Russian journalists made a programme on Dalí and Catalan traditions, among others.

Several private companies and entities from the Girona tourism sector participated and collaborated directly in the press and familiarisation trips.
