In March the Patronat de Turisme, together with the Catalan Tourism Agency, and with the support of several tourism organisations and companies from the Girona area, organised five press trips with different themes for twenty one journalists from the UK, France, China and Spain.

On 4th, 5th and 6th March, eight Chinese journalists from different media outlets (Shanghai Morning Post, World Traveller, Global Times, Modern Weekly, Travel & Leisure, Shanghai Times) visited natural, historic and cultural sites on Costa Brava, including the Dalí Triangle, the city of Girona and the casinos of Peralada and Lloret de Mar, among other places, for the purpose of the Shanghai World Expo in which a “Catalonia Week” will be held from 24th to 30th May. Secondly, from 5th to 9th March, a British journalist visited the Costa Brava to update information content for the republishing of the AA Essential Costa Brava pocket guide.

Meanwhile, eight Spanish journalists from the magazines Turismo y Aventura, QTravel and Paisajes desde el tren, and from the travel supplements Destinos and Viajar of the El Periódico and ABC newspapers respectively, were invited to travel along the Pyrenean Counties Route, developed by the Directorate General for Tourism, with the aim of promoting this new cultural product in the national market. The section of the route in the Girona area travels through Ripoll, Sant Joan de les Abadesses, Beget, Besalú, Girona and Castelló d’Empúries.

From 21st to 24th March a team from the French documentary TV channel Odyssée (TF1) made a press trip to the Costa Brava to produce two reports to be broadcast as part of the programme Du bon, du beau, du bien-être. The reports are entitled “Charming breaks in Catalonia: Begur, Pals and Peratallada” and “The Dalí Triangle”.

Last of all, from 25th to 28th March two journalists from the British newspaper The Sunday Telegraph visited the Costa Brava to explore cultural, traditional and gastronomic aspects of the destination, as well as to try out various sporting activities.

Press trips enable the Patronat de Turisme to publicise tourism products, services and new features of the Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona destinations through the publication of articles and reports in the national and international press.
