Press trips

20 journalists visit the destination on five press trips focusing on specific themes: skiing, culture and food and wine tourism.

MARCH 2014

Five press trips to the Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona destination were organised in February, focusing on specific themes in order to showcase the resources and tourism offering of the ski resorts of the Pirineu de Girona, the Dalí triangle, Girona as a city break destination, and the local food and wine culture. Renfe, the Spanish national rail network, participated in some of the promotional initiatives thanks to a collaboration agreement with the Patronat.

20 journalists from Madrid, Russia, Poland and China visited the area on theme-based trips with the support of the Patronat de Turisme, local tourism bodies and companies, and local councils. A journalist from the Madrid-based magazine Woman travelled to Girona on the high-speed train on a two-day city break, while Chinese journalists from Travel Plus Magazine visited the Costa Brava to produce a ten-page feature on the Dalí triangle. Furthermore, taking advantage of the new high-speed rail link between Madrid and Figueres, a journalist from the newspaper El Mundo visited the area to write an article on the Dalí triangle and to showcase the new rail link.

In mid-February six Russian journalists visited the area's ski resorts and five Polish journalists came to explore two ski resorts in particular (La Molina and Masella), along with two tourism towns (Puigcerdà and Alp).

Meanwhile, coinciding with the Gastronomic Forum in Girona, the Patronat de Turisme organised a four-day press trip for six journalists from Spanish media outlets (De Viajes, ABC Viajar, Gastronautas, La Razón and Gastronomad) during which they attended the gastronomic conference and visited local tourist attractions. The schedule of visits included the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, a DO Empordà wine cellar, Cadaqués, the Tudela beauty spot, the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, Girona, Calella de Palafrugell and Palamós. Special food and wine activities were organised, such as a wine tasting at a DO Empordà cellar, a tasting hosted by a Girona-based sommelier and meals in Michelin-starred restaurants and others with signature cuisine.
