The ski resorts of the Pirineu de Girona are applying the final touches before they start operating in December.

MARCH 2014

Girona’s ski resorts ready to open for business. This year, ski resort users can once again enjoy the Ski Girona Coupon Book that enables them to ski in five Girona ski resorts.

The excellent 2008-2009 season has enabled the resorts to make significant investments to improve their infrastructures and services. Ski resort managers trust that it will be another good season. This season skiers can enjoy several new features that have provided resorts with added quality.

New features for 2009-2010

La Molina_ With an investment plan of 1.9 million euros, the old Cap de Comella cable-car has been replaced by a new six-seater detachable chairlift. The new chairlift will speed up queuing and can carry 2,700 people in an hour. A new 675 metre long red piste called Sitjà has also been opened at the resort in the Roc Blanc zone. This extension means that the resort now has 53 pistes and 61 kilometres of marked runs. Work has also continued in respect of the plan for developing artificial snow cover systems and there are now 25 pistes and 27 kilometres with artificial snow cover.

Masella_ The implementation of a two-year plan has begun, representing an investment of 10 million euros. The skiable area has been increased this year with five new pistes and three variations, thus adding four kilometres to the marked runs, which now total 72 kilometres. The establishment of the Pia zone as a new main access point has begun with a new chairlift (a six-seater named Pia Express) and a services area.

Vall de Núria_ A 340 meter long border cross run has been constructed with banked curves, jumps and humps. The Snow Park has been extended by 250 metres and new jump and balance elements have been incorporated. The snowshoe run around the Sanctuary, which in previous seasons was temporary, is now firmly established. The resort has incorporated new high pressure snow cannons for the Funicular piste and several sections of the Pala Bèstia, Les Creus, Funicular and sledging pistes have been reshaped and improved.

Vallter 2000_ Several pistes have been improved and extended in the resort: Morens I, Morens II and Xemeneies. A link piste had been created to gain access to the stadium piste from Morens. Other novelties include the acquisition of an indoor Tubby tube run, which is also suitable for use in the summer. Other improvements include doubling the number of snow cannons in the resort.

Guils Fontanera_ The parking facilities were asphalted this summer and thanks to 100,000 euros provided by the Catalan Government, the Fontanera zone now has electricity. This opens up new possibilities for the current winter season since it is now technically feasible to install snow cannons and increase the services offer in the restaurant zone.
