Nature Tourism Day

A nature tourism day entitled "The preservation of natural areas as an opportunity for the tourism sector" was held in Olot on 26^th May, bringing together technicians from the Europarc organisation and representatives of some twenty tourism bodies and companies from the Girona area.

On the occasion of the meeting of the European technicians of the Working Group of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism, and making the most of their presence in the area, the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava, together with the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone of La Garrotxa and the Garrotxa Tourism Association, held a nature tourism day in the city of Olot on 26^th May.

The nature tourism day, entitled "The preservation of natural areas as an opportunity for the tourism sector", was aimed at transferring the knowledge of the Europarc technicians to tourism bodies and companies from the Girona area that are working in or plan to work in natural areas or parks. The experiences of the Europarc technicians have provided new ideas for the tourism and economic development of local companies situated close to natural areas.

Two round table discussions were held to facilitate participation and discussion between the European technicians and tourism sector professionals from Girona and Catalonia as a whole. The issues dealt with included tourism businesses in protected areas, the creation of tourism products in natural protected areas and eco-tourism opportunities in Catalonia.
