International prizes for campsites

Six campsites from the Girona area are chosen as Europe's best by international organisations including the ANWB and the ADAC.

MARCH 2014

The La Ballena Alegre 2 campsite in Sant Pere Pescador was awarded a prize by the ADAC (German Automobile Club) as one of Europe's best campsites in 2011 at the CMT 2011 caravaning, motoring and tourism fair in Stuttgart (Germany). The prize is awarded for the quality of facilities, first class services and virtually customised assistance. Only 79 campsites out of a total of 5,500 campsites in Europe hold this honour.

Meanwhile, the ANWB (Royal Dutch Touring Club), Europe's biggest tourism information organisation (with almost 4 million members, 1.7 million of whom are campsite visitors), selected the Internacional de Calonge campsite as the runner-up for the best campsite of the year in the family campsite category. The awards ceremony of the prestigious ANWB prizes for the 2011 Best Campsites was held on 11th January in Utrecht (Holland). The jury was composed of well-known personalities from the world of publishing and European campsite guides.

Meanwhile, the Internacional de Calonge campsite was selected as the best year-round campsite by the Alan Rogers camping association, which publishes a guide that only includes Europe's best campsites. This organisation awarded the first prize to Las Dunas campsite in Sant Pere Pescador as the best family campsite and third prizes to the Cala Llevadó campsite in Tossa de Mar (best coastal campsite) and to the Las Palmeras campsite in Sant Pere Pescador (charming campsite). Moreover, the L’Àmfora campsite, also in Sant Pere Pescador, has been considered the best for quality of service, in an award voted on by campers.

This year, the campsites of the Girona Campsite Association are once again European leaders in terms of the quality of facilities and services. Last year, the Cala Gogo campsite in Platja d’Aro was also awarded a prize by the ANWB, while the Les Medes campsite in L’Estartit and the Las Dunas campsite in Sant Pere Pescador obtained the ADAC prize. The Stel campsite in Guils de Cerdanya was an ACSI prize winner.
