Initiatives involving tour operators

The Patronat has participated in promotional initiatives aimed at intermediary channels that operate internationally and has organised a familiarisation trip to the destination for Irish agents.

MARCH 2014

In September, the Patronat de Turisme took part in three workshops: two culture and gastronomy workshops, held in Bilbao and Madrid respectively, and an inverse workshop that formed part of a familiarisation trip aimed at the Irish market.

The Patronat de Turisme organised a familiarisation trip for a group of Irish tour operators with the goal of enabling them to get to know the destination and market it in Ireland. The Irish tour operators showed particular interest in purchasing package holidays including city breaks and golfing activities. This initiative has served to maintain contact and strengthen the relationship with the agents who already operate in the destination. The trip ended with an inverse workshop that was attended by twenty companies from the Girona area, most of which were inbound tourism companies, hotels and activity companies. The Irish agencies that took part in the familiarisation trip included Travel Centres, Club Travel and Abbey Travel, among others.

On 28th and 29th September, the Patronat de Turisme, together with four companies from the Girona area, took part in the Catalan Culture and Gastronomy workshop organised by the Catalan Tourism Agency, bringing together 140 travel agents and tourism professionals from the Basque Country and Madrid.

This initiative forms part of programme number one of the Patronat de Turisme, concerning marketing and promotion, within the 2011-2015 strategic tourism plan of the counties of Girona.
