Costa Brava Girona International Blogtrip

The visit by 16 international bloggers to the Costa Brava destination generates more than 14 million Twitter impressions around the world in just nine days.

MARCH 2014

For nine days, the Costa Brava and the Pirineu de Girona was a worldwide trending topic since the bloggers invited on the first Costa Brava Girona international blogtrip enjoy an excellent reputation and all boast thousands of followers on social networks, including Twitter.

The initial estimates carried out by the Patronat de Turisme of the impact of the promotional action on social networks indicate that more than 14 million impressions were distributed across 25 countries all over the world in just nine days. Meanwhile, by the end of May, 29 articles had been published on the bloggers’ experiences on the Costa Brava and in the Pirineu de Girona, most of which were in English, except for three in German. These features included one in the National Geographic travel magazine, one in the UK's Travel Trade Gazette and one in the Inflight magazine of an Asian airline. Lonely Planet, the world's leading travel guide publisher, has already published eight articles on the Girona area. Moreover, the bloggers have shared several photos on their Facebook pages and have begun to upload photos in Flickr that have subsequently been published in Twitter as well. A video with views of the Costa Brava has also been uploaded.

In addition to the articles that have appeared in social networks, traditional media outlets (printed newspapers, online newspapers and magazines, radio stations, and local and national television channels) have also published articles, features and interviews as a result of the promotional initiative implemented by the Patronat de Turisme, through which a group of the world's best tourism and travel bloggers visited and experienced the Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona destination for six days.

The public sector has provided 57% of the funding for this first tourism blogtrip, an initiative of the Patronat de Turisme. Specifically, the Patronat de Turisme has contributed 35%, the public sector of the area 10% and Turespaña 12%. The private sector has provided the remaining 43% of the total budget.
