Costa Brava Cycle Tourism and Hiking Conference

Now in its second year, the conference is focusing on hiking as well as cycle tourism. Hiking is growing in popularity as a tourism product and is worthy of attention in the new leisure culture.

MARCH 2014

The second Costa Brava Cycle Tourism Conference took place in Palafrugell from 7th to 10th October. The event was organised by the ECA Bureau Veritas Foundation with the support of the Catalan Government, Girona Provincial Council, the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, Palafrugell Town Council and the Greenways Consortium of the counties of Girona, along with other bodies and associations. This year’s conference incorporated hiking as a new product.

The Patronat de Turisme was a sponsor of the Cycle Tourism and Hiking Conference. This event was set up two years ago with the goal of being a meeting point for institutional, business and social agents related to cycle tourism and hiking. It acts as a forum for information, discussion, ideas and projects on this type of tourism, which is experiencing rapid growth and shows great future potential. These products act as a significant springboard for a new leisure culture geared towards healthy activities and the respectful enjoyment of the scenery and cultural heritage of destinations.

This year the conference also included the Sector Professionals Forum, aimed at tourism businesses, in particular hotels, that wished to find out more about the ins and outs of creating tourism offer in the form of cycle tourism and hiking packages. Furthermore, the conference offered a programme of cycling and hiking activities, through which participants could discover various spots on the Costa Brava.
