El Celler de Can Roca, "World's Best Restaurant 2013" according to the British publication Restaurant Magazine

On 29th April 2013, the prestigious British publication Restaurant Magazine named Girona’s El Celler de Can Roca the "World's Best Restaurant 2013" at the "World's 50 Best Restaurants 2013" awards ceremony, which took place in London's historic Guildhall and which was attended by chefs, food and wine critics and journalists, restaurant owners and opinion leaders from all over the world.

In the hours leading up to the event, the Costa Brava Tourist Board, of Girona Provincial Council, with the collaboration of the Catalan Tourism Agency and the Spanish Tourist Office in London, held the second "Breakfast with stars of the Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees", a promotional event hosted on this occasion by the Roca brothers and aimed at promoting the destination among a group of over one hundred leading travel and food and wine journalists and influencers from 19 countries.

During the breakfast, the Roca brothers unveiled to the world the new culinary and business project of El Celler de Can Roca, El Somni (The Dream). Aided by a series of videos, the brothers presented the project and announced to the media that the first culinary opera would take place on 6th May and would be attended by 12 distinguished and internationally renowned diners from noteworthy professional fields.

At the same event, the Tourist Board made a visually striking and dynamic presentation of the Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees destination. The presentation was made by the Director of the Spanish Tourist Office in London, Enrique Ruiz de Lera, the Director General for Tourism of the Government of Catalonia, Marian Muro, and the President of Girona Provincial Council and of the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, Joan Giraut. The producer and managing director of Mediapro, Jaume Roures, and the multidisciplinary artist Franc Aleu were also involved in the presentation.

The breakfast was prepared by the Girona company I Cook It, using top quality produce from the Girona area provided by local suppliers: cheeses (Molí de Ger, Mas Alba, Mas Mercè and Gori), cottage cheese (Ca la Nuri), tramuntana breads (Maia Flequers), anchovies from L’Escala, cured sausages (La Vall d’en Bas and El Graner), marmalades (Museu de la Confitura), pastries (Parc Bosch patisserie), infusions (Alma Teas), olive oil (Serraferran), DO Empordà wines (Martí Faixó, Empordàlia, La Vinyeta and Cellers d’en Guilla), cava (Mont-Ferrant) and mineral water (Sant Aniol).

This initiative, promoted and led by the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Office, aims to use Girona's gastronomy and the Roca brothers as ambassadors for raising the profile of the Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees destinations among travel influencers and media outlets all over the world.
