MARCH 2014

“Mediterranean Pantry”, a series featuring produce from the Girona area, will be shown on Canal Cocina. This Visual13 production, hosted by chef Jordi Jacas, aims to approach television gastronomy from a new perspective. Girona Provincial Council and the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona have collaborated in the production of “Mediterranean Pantry”, which starts on 1st November.

The series consists of 13 25-minute episodes. Each episode focuses exclusively on one of the most outstanding products in the Girona area. In a special report viewers find out how the product is cultivated, caught or manufactured through interviews with producers. They also learn about the product’s qualities and the traditions associated with its consumption, while at the same time discovering the extraordinary scenery of the counties of Girona from the Pyrenees to the Costa Brava. “Mediterranean Pantry” starts on 1st November and will be shown every Monday at 11 a.m., 5 p.m. and on Tuesday at 12.30 a.m. on Canal Cocina, a private channel available on digital platforms. Canal Cocina is a 24-hour channel dedicated exclusively to food, featuring both Spanish and foreign chefs.

Meanwhile, the “GR. Way of Saint James” programme, shown on Canal 33 from October, is a new nine-episode weekly documentary series. Each episode shows a different stage of the route used by pilgrims and hikers to cross Catalonia from east to west as they make their way to Santiago de Compostela.

Over the course of the series, the presenter Marc de las Heras shows historical sights and scenery, explains the area’s past and interviews local personalities who add interest to each programme. The first three episodes feature the Way of Saint James in the counties of Girona.

This series has been produced by Televisió de Catalunya and Cactus Produccions with the support of the Catalan Ministry for Innovation, Universities and Enterprise and with the technical collaboration of the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona. Furthermore, several tourism organisations and companies from the counties of Alt Empordà, Gironès, Selva and Garrotxa were actively involved in producing the parts of the programme filmed in the Girona area between May and July 2010.
