Astro-tourism

Astro-tourism was introduced into the province of Girona and favours natural nocturnal leisure.

APRIL 2018

The Albanyà Astronomical Observatory and the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board presented the first astro-tourism product in the province of Girona, with the aim of bringing the fascinating world of astronomy closer to families, amateur photographers, schools and people who are interested in nature and technology in general. As a result of the opening of the Albanyà Astronomical Observatory in April 2017, and with its membership of the Nature and Active Tourism Marketing Club and of the Costa Brava Girona Convention Bureau, the Tourist Board has started to offer its support to a new tourist product associated to the dissemination of knowledge about different subjects, such as astronomy, home automation, robotics and sustainability, in an exceptional natural setting. This new option contributes towards the renewal and diversification of the tourist products in the Girona destination; at the same time, it makes the most of the existing tourist infrastructure and helps to do away with the seasonal nature of tourism and to complement stays. It is also an innovative project that generates a new business opportunity for the tourist stakeholders in the territory linked to activities carried out in nature.
