2.0 Training workshop

80 professionals from the tourism sector took part in the workshop entitled "Setting up a website using WordPress".

MARCH 2014

On 17th and 31st March, the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona held workshops entitled "Setting up a website using WordPress", targeted at professionals from the tourism sector, public administration bodies and companies from the Girona area. They were attended by eighty Girona-based professionals from the hotel and restaurant sector, campsites, rural accommodation centres and ski resorts, among others.

These workshops, led by Montse Peñarroya, Director of GEA Internet Project Consulting and an expert in tourism and Web 2.0, explained how to use the WordPress content management system flexibly and straightforwardly to set up a website. WordPress is a state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. It is also free and can be updated constantly.

The workshops, each of which lasted four hours, focused on the need to have an appropriate domain name and hosting service in place for the installation of WordPress. Once the programme is installed the website itself can be created by using free or premium templates and subsequently incorporating the contents of the future website: text, images, videos or pdf files.

Holding training courses forms part of the strategy of the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona to foster the continuous training of tourism sector professionals in the Web 2.0 field and to increase the competitiveness of Girona's tourism industry so that it has the necessary tools to maintain its standing as leading international tourism destination.
